Draft Recap

Overall, I thought we had a decent draft. We addressed some needs and added some depth however, there were definitely some head scratchers for me in the later rounds. In our history we have gotten some nice value in the late rounds most notably Chase Roullier(Rd6), Cole Holcomb(Rd5), Kamren Curl(Rd7), and maybe our best one Matthew Ioannidis(Rd5). Let’s hope we can harness some of that magic from this draft.

Jamin Davis, LB Kentucky

The guy came from, what seemed like, out of nowhere. It was hard for me to accept that pick, at the time, with Darrisaw still on the board, but the more tape you watch and research you do it is not hard to love the guy. He ran a 4.41 at his pro day, he’s a skilled sideline to sideline LB who excels in coverage, and is a stopper in the run game. He is exactly the type of LB you need at your second level to be successful in todays NFL.

Samuel Cosmi, OT Texas

He started out a right tackle then converted to left; I’m happy with this pick considering all the lineman that were taken before him. He has powerful hands to stun you at the line with good lateral quickness. I’m just glad we got a tackle that, in some mocks, was projected in round 1. He needs some technical work according to scouts, but with a closer to normal offseason I believe he could be our starting LT of the future.

Benjamin St-Juste, CB Minnesota

I didn’t love this pick, I was a bigger fan of Adebo and Melinfonwu. St-Juste is a big guy at 6’3 with good upside. In the defense we have he’ll have the space to grow. He competes for the football, breaks up passes, and helps in run support. It will be fun to watch his development.

Dyami Brown, WR North Carolina

Huge value pick! Most had him going in the 2nd round. He had great stats through college and gets a Terry McLaurin comparison from scouts. I think we will all be happy to have him on the outside. He is a deep ball specialist who averaged a whopping 20 plus yards per catch over his last 100 grabs with 8 tubs (touchdowns) of over 40 yards. With Samuel and McLaurin this could be a very dangerous home-run hitting unit.

John Bates, TE Boise State

He’s massive at 6’6 256 pounds, but I was surprised by this one given that Brevin Jordan was still on the board. He is a more traditional possession TE with run blocking abilities that will be a nice compliment to the vertical receiving abilities of Logan Thomas.

Darrick Forrest, S Cincinnati

Not the true free safety I thought we needed, though he still has good ball skills. He plays well in the box and is a good downhill tackler. It’s fair to say he’s a bit of a hybrid safety that will be an immediate help on special teams. We probably need to address FS in free agency, still.

Camaron Cheeseman, LS Michigan

I think we could’ve signed him undrafted or got him the 7th, but that’s fine. He fills a void left by Sundberg’s departure so that’s good, I guess.

William Bradley-King, DE Baylor

He brings edge depth behind our duo of Young and Sweat. He’s a guy who is not going to blow you away athletically, but is a smart player who has progressed yearly which is a clear display of his work ethic and character. He will be afforded the luxury of time behind our already great edge tandem.

Shaka Toney, DE Penn State

Again, edge depth. He’s a speed rusher, he could be a good guy as he becomes more polished, and he is in the right situation to do so. He has great players in front of him and around him. He is a high character guy who was a team captain at PSU.

Dax Milne, WR BYU

Originally, a walk on and quickly turned to Zach Wilson’s favorite target. That there tells me he’s not afraid to put the work in. He has good size and all, but I’m having a hard time seeing his fit. I’m thinking we’ll most likely use him as a practice squad player.

Watching the draft is always a fun time. I’m really stoked about the upcoming season. I can’t wait to see what we do with the rest of the off season. There are still a few free agents available that I believe would fit nicely on our squad I hope we make some moves there.HTTFT!!!
