The Journey Forward

Well, that’s it; no WFT for 9 months (actually no more WFT). We end the season with a 22-7 win over the NY Giants (of course more 2’s) to pull off the sweep. Giving up a tub was kind of a let down, but after a week of name speculation and Joe Judge’s comments it was good to shut the door on them. It was a tough season highlighted, in my mind, by Fitzpatrick’s week one season ending hip injury that stunted our potential. Compile that with a rash of other injuries, being ravaged by COVID, and a mountain of off field distractions. I’m proud of the way the guys fought and displayed heart, which is a great testament to the kind of culture Coach Ron is building finishing with a 7-10 record.

There’s a lot to look forward to this offseason, but also a lot of questions that need answered.

Who will we get at 11?

What is the QB plan going forward?

Will Jamin Davis make the leap and resolve our LB issues or are we far away from that?

Are we finally going to add a legit FS?

Are we going to get CB help with the ones we have aging?

The only question we will get answered shortly is the name, in just under a month.

I want to extend a congrats to Terry and Gibby on getting over 1000 yards becoming the first duo on our team to do since Morris and Jackson in 2014.

A big move we really need to make is working out the extension on Terry this offseason, no franchise tag either. Long term deal on the table; he posted back-to-back 1k seasons without a consistent starter at QB, imagine the possibilities if we lock a good one down.

This offseason is going to be a great tell for our teams direction going forward. It’s time for the coaching staff to get these guys turning the corner. I think Scott Turner has done a good job with the QB’s he’s had to work with, and though I was disappointed in the defensive drop off I trust Jack Del Rio can right the defensive ship. Ron definitely has the locker room, and although Snyder is still the thorn in our side I think, culture wise, we are headed in the right direction.

As we head into mock draft season and free agent speculation I’m really excited to cover all of it. I’m looking to get my podcast going soon, and excited to poke around with my own mock drafts, my grades for the rookies, and my draft/ free agent wish lists. I love this time of year, because I feel like with the leadership we have in place we are really making an effort to take steps forward. I’m going to miss watching the guys play on Sundays, but ready to see our next step in the process to becoming a consistent winner. Hail to… whoever we are.
