Well, what a mess! I can’t stomach a recap of the 56 points laid on us, so just know it was bad, like really bad. 56-14 and it never looked like it was going to be close. I always hoped to never relive the “Monday night Massacre” (we lost to the Eagles 59-28, Mike Vick had 6 tubs), but here we are. We were totally dominated from kickoff and it just seemed that a year of uphill battles, adversity, injury, and COVID finally reached its head.
The bad news is this isn’t our first rock bottom over the last few years, but hopefully it’s this regime’s last. The good news about this regime hitting rockbottom is it literally has to go up or I think they will make a change (I’m not calling for Rivera’s job I’m just saying I don’t think the front office will be as patient as they were with Gruden). It’s going to be a steep climb with plenty of holes to fill. The worst part of the game was the “fight” between Allen and Payne. I’m sorry but I don’t disagree with Allen’s actions. The problem really is that it happened during a blowout so it kind of ended up being the most interesting part of the game. Despite what it looked like, whether you think it’s dysfunction or a rift, these men are ultra competitors and have been teammates since college. At the end of the day they are just people like you and me with their frustrations mounting, coming to the end of a tumultuous season. We expect a lot from them because they are pro football players, but stuff gets to them as well.
A big thing I saw and kind of keyed in on was we looked lost at the second level. This makes me really want Collins back in his current role despite the cap relief because his leadership and hybrid role playing ability is going to create a much bigger hole to fill than we maybe realize (by evidence of the blowout we have plenty of these to fill). Also, Holcomb missing really shined through; I hope we look at him as a long term option, but you just never can tell with this front office.
I’m not sure we should be calling for anyone’s job at this point, but we need some changes and soon. This fan base is starved for really just some competitiveness, if nothing else. Anyway, on to Philly they are coming off a game where they spanked a P squad Qb. Hurts played well and they are confident and motivated for a playoff push. I’ll be at FED EX cheering for our guys, but I think we lose 23-17. It’ll be a close game, but with frustrations mounting and a stack of defensive injuries they will run effectively on us again. With Gibson not 100% and our inability to find any rhythm throwing the ball we will fall short. But hey man, its still Beat Philly!!!
