Well that’s 2 in a row after dropping this one to Philly. I was hopeful maybe falsely confident coming in it just seems like overcoming these kind of things has become our signature. this time it proved to much with upwards of 20 dudes on the covid list including bot our Qbs it just wasn’t in the cards. I’m proud of our boys though they fought hard and anyone who is angry with Gilbert I don’t know if we watched the same game he competed and kept in the game the best any Qb who has been with a program less then a week could so let’s recap.
In the first quarter the defense dominated forcing 2 turnovers (maybe one was a little bit of dumb luck). Landon Collins has become a great playmaker is his hybrid role and a bit of a ball magnet having interceptions in consecutive weeks and recovering a fumble. Gibson looked electric until injuring his toe with a 19 yard catch out of the gate and a rushing Tub. Gilbert looked really good as well hitting McLaurin on a deep ball and should’ve had a touchdown on a beautiful throw right to Humphries numbers and he just couldn’t haul it in( I don’t know how we keep getting these guys off the P squads). All-in-all great start up 10-0 should be 14, but it’s all good Humps.
After, a fast start in the 1st we began to drift in the second. We had very little answer for the Eagles going up tempo if not for a few penalties by them, they would probably have more than ten. To this point I was proud of how we were handling our selves and still believed we had shot if we didn’t turn the ball over and kept playing field position. The sat 10-10 going into the half.
Quarter 3 arrives and we are starting to look worn down unable to stop the run and the read option was tearing us apart. The offense still hasn’t been able to get going though we didn’t expect much. We are going need a miracle from Gilbert or some defensive heroics going into the 4th down 10.
As the 4th quarter arrived Jarrett Patterson powers in his first NFL Touchdown to bring us within one score its 20-17. Needing something huge from our defense we couldn’t get it done allowing the Eagles strong running game to get all over us capping the drive off with an acrobatic catch for a 19 yard TD by Greg Ward. The game would end in defeat 27-17.
Hard to be mad at the guys for this one. They fought their tails off and picked up more injuries in the process which has been a hard thing to stomach this year. Gilbert has a live arm and played really well even on short notice it was nice having a guy throw it well outside the numbers for a change. This team has no quit in it tons of heart and you have to love that. This game felt like the nail in the coffin to an up and down season and barring something incredible it really might be, but hey on to Dallas focused on a win. BEAT DALLAS!!!!!!
