It’s been a wild week with over 20 players going into Covid Protocols, including both our QB’s and a vast majority of our D-Line. The NFL (much to the chagrin of the Eagles) threw us a bone and pushed the game to Tuesday. This has allowed 5 of our D- Lineman to come back, two of them being Sweat and Allen.
I think we have a good, not great, chance to win this one. We have to get the run game going, first and foremost. Kyle Allen and Heinicke are trending towards playing, this week; with Taylor going on a day later than Allen, it might just happen. So, all the fans clamoring for an Allen start after some of Heinicke’s struggles may just get their wish. In other good news, McKissic and McLaurin have cleared concussion protocol, though it’s unclear if J.D. will play; having not practiced all week with a neck injury designation.
The Eagles have allowed 13 rushing Tubs and over 1400 yards on the ground to this point in the season, which is about middle of the road defensively. Jalen Hurts is projected to play even after all of the “quarterback controversy” 2 weeks ago, which will seriously help their number 1 rushing attack. We are a better team against the run and I’m sure Sweat is eager to remind all of us just how valuable he is to us with a statement game against our division rivals. The more defensive lineman we get back, the better we should all feel.
Slay and Cox spoke out against the NFL’s decision to move the game which makes me feel like they don’t want/ like this match up. Both teams are in a tight battle for a wildcard spot in the NFC and Philly thought they were getting a “freebie” on a divisional opponent. I guess I would be upset too if I was (1-4) at home and now it’s going to be a tougher game against a Washington defense that is hitting it’s stride.
Though it wasn’t popular moving the game, it was the right thing to do. It’s not safe to thrust all these players from the practice squad right into an NFL game. I’m glad the NFL is doing this, especially since it’s benefitting our team. What I’m not excited about is seeing Ryan Kerrigan playing against us, as he was one of my favorite players, and he just looks better in burgundy and gold.
I’m thinking that this game is going to be a tight one and with overcoming adversity becoming our unfortunate norm and specialty I think we win this one 17-10. Sweat is going to have a come back party in the Eagles backfield and our speedy LB’s (and Landon Collins, a “hybrid”) we’re going to make it tough to run the ball. Our offense is going to run heavy and control the clock and force Philly and Hurts to press, which will lead to turnovers. BEAT PHILLY!!!!!
