WFT Draft Wishlist

As we all know the 2021 NFL Draft is approaching and I wanted to give a little bit of insight as to what I’m hoping and thinking the Washington Football Team will do. So I’ve put together my wish list for the draft that I’ve based upon different articles I’ve read and some of my own research, and of course what I think would be generally good for the team. With that being said, this is a list of players that I think may be available at the time of each of our picks. I’m basing each pick on our previous rounds choice, who will fill a gap, and who will be the best fit at the time of our draft position.

Rd 1 Pick 19

Rashod Bateman, WR

I like Toney a lot and a lot of analysts have us taking him, but I think Bateman is more of the kind of WR we need right now. For sure, he has big play ability and he wins contested catches; he was an absolute force at Minnesota. He has glue like hands with polished route running ability.

Christian Darrisaw, OT

I, for one, love this guy! I don’t believe he allowed a single sack last year and is already known for his great athleticism and footwork. He’s got the experience scouts like and could step in as a day 1 starter. My fear is that he won’t fall this far in the draft. Fingers crossed though, as he could be a serious game changer for us.

Zaven Collins, LB

Rare guy, here. He has an absolutely massive frame with the ability to go sideline to sideline, he’s like footballs Zion Williamson. I really think that with his ability to edge rush he could develop into a great blitzer. They say he’s a team first kind of guy, which would be awesome in our rebuilding culture right now.

Rd 2 Pick 51

Richie Grant, S

He’s got all the tools to be a great NFL safety. He is great in run support with the speed and awareness to play the centerfielder role. We have lacked a true free safety for so long and I think he would be a breath of fresh air.

Liam Eichenberg, OT

First off, Notre Dame is an absolute offensive lineman factory; I would take him on that alone. He got plenty of experience at ND on Book’s blindside although some people thought he seemed to be more of a guard that doesn’t matter much to me. I would like to see him come play tackle for us and be a day 1 starter.

Alex Leatherwood, OT

As you can tell, I believe we have an issue on the O-line. I like Leatherwood, but I don’t love him. He got a lot of experience at Bama in the best conference in college football, and if Jedrick Wills’ success indicates anything, then I will take him.

Rd 3 Picks 74 and 82

I’m choosing 6 players for this round simply because we have 2 picks.

Dylan Moses, LB

The guy is an instinctive player who sometimes struggles with his reads in the pass game, but is a great athlete with a sideline to sideline presence. People are worried about a torn ACL and I think that worry is misplaced. The guy is just a flat out baller who was in the mix a ton for the Alabama defense.

Monty Rice, LB

I’m a huge Rice fan, the guy is an absolute ball magnet and a good get in a deep LB class. He is one of the guys who was a true game changer for a very good UGA defense. I’ve seen some complaints about his pass defense, but I just didn’t see it. I think we would be getting a really good player who just isn’t getting the respect he deserves.

Brevin Jordan, TE

He just may be the most athletic TE not named Kyle Pitts. I like his ability after the catch and his break on routes. I definitely want to see an improvement in blocking, but that’s just because I love a good run game.

Ben Cleveland, OG

Big Ben is a massive individual, a pillar on a good UGA line for years. He has started and played in many crucial games. We need to get a good LG and try to prepare ourselves for life without Scherff. I always believe that, in the draft, when in doubt take an offensive lineman.

Tutu Atwell, WR

He’s a joystick type player with sub 4.4 speed. Having Atwell, McLaurin, and Samuel out there would be absolutely chaotic for defenses. He is a slot guy for sure but we would be adding another home run hitter to very fast Scott Turner offense.

Paulson Adebo, CB

The guy is a ball hawk, he plays very fast, and is super physical with great size and speed. I would love to bring him in to play on the outside, move Fuller back to slot, and with our great front four he would have all the time to grow.

Rd 4 Pick 124

Tylan Wallace, WR

He is a little small for an outside receiver but has great leaping anticipation on the jump ball. This is a deep WR class and Tylan would be a good depth get in this round. He had really good production through college; he was a Biletnkoff award finalist in 2018.

Chubba Hubbard, RB

I like, but don’t love our RB situation. I think this is a worthy addition given some of the power he displays. The fear for Chubba is that he got a lot of usage in college and now we want to put him in a system were he doesn’t have to do it all. I think we could get a lot of production from a very good player.

Wyatt Davis, OG

He is a bit of a smaller dude, but he plays hard and fights on the line. Again, going off of my previous statement when in doubt take an offensive lineman.

Rd 5 Pick 163

James Hudson, OT

As you can see, I’m overly concerned with the O-line. Hudson is a great athlete with some raw ability because he started out as a defensive tackle. I feel like the transition went really well for him and he was everything Cincinnati could have asked for. If you watched the Peach bowl he should’ve answered a lot of questions. As a quick recap, the game took a turn in the wrong direction when he left the field.

Caden Sterns, S

I don’t like that he’s not really a free safety; he’s got some room to grow as far as play recognition. However, he’s a very good athlete and what can really help a young DB is a great pass rush (which Washington has, btw).

Jamie Newman, QB

I like Newman in a developmental role in our offense. He’s a good passer and good physical runner; he opted out last year which I think really hurt him, but he definitely has some upside here. Side note: I’m not a fan of us taking a QB at all, unless we trade up in the first.

Rd 7 Picks 244 and 246

Richard LeCounte, S

They’ve knocked him for being small, but I’m wondering if anyone has ever heard of Tyrann Mathieu. LeCounte was an all over the field, Hybrid type safety who forced a lot of turnovers and was what seemed to bring the UGA defense together. We hit on an SEC safety in Rd 7 last year, why not again?

Jonathan Cooper, Edge

Once upon a time, teammate of Chase Young; let’s pair them up again. It would be nice to add some depth to our edge rush after Kerrigan’s departure. I don’t know if he’s gonna get a lot of snaps but I like the thought of getting him and Young back together.

Israel Makuama, CB

He’s a really big corner; I like his size and wingspan. He is more of zone corner, but you can’t teach height. Standing at 6’4 with good ball skills, he’s like a red zone receiver. In my opinion, if he falls to the 7th this is a piece that you want to develop, if you can.

A kicker, literally any kicker

No, I don’t have a name and I don’t even care who it is. I just want someone who can come in and potentially push Hopkins. I don’t know about y’all, but I’m kind of tired of watching him kick for us.

Again, this is just a wishlist. I definitely hope we can get some of these guys and who knows where they will all fall. These players address our needs, for the most part, and give a chance to add depth and talent to Washington. I’m super excited for this years draft and I feel like its a really deep draft class with a lot of talented young men. HTTFT!!
